This is the Alaska of the imagination: quiet fjords, icy glaciers, capricious mountain peaks and evergreen forests; wildlife and cities from the gold rush with lots of charms. Yet there is more than just outward beauty here; dig a little deeper, and experience the rich history and unique cultures of the people who thrived here long before Bering discovered it in 1741.
Day 1-2: Vancouver, Canada Private transfer to your hotel where you are staying overnight. Vancouver is a wonderful combination of urban sophistication and adventurous wilderness at the doorstep. The mountains and the sea view make the city a starting point for mountain hikes, skiing, kayaking, cycling and sailing and much more. Vancouver is characterised as one of the world’s most liveable cities with a fantastic hinterland. Embarkation on day 2, departure at 18:00 hours.
Day 3: Cruise through the Inside Passage Fjords and islands present a constantly changing panorama.Youmayseeblackbears,fallowdeerorred deer on land. There is a population of probably about 500 humpback whales living in the Inside Passage. Orca families can be found near Vancouver Island.
Day 4: Ketchikan; 08:00-17:00 hours. After crossing the Decision Passage and Snow Pass we moor in Ketchikan. Here you will get to know the culture of the original inhabitants. On the coast their totem poles were famous devotional monuments. The eagle played a leading role in the religion. The name Ketchikan means: the thundering wings of an eagle. Seaplanes carry mail and shopping around and drop shermen o at the best shing spots. Salmon shing attracts anglers from near and far, but also black bears. Also enjoy the seals sunbathing on the rocks and eagles who also like to catch a fish.
Day 5: Sitka; 12:00-19:00 hours. Partly due to its isolated location, the place still has traces of a diverse cultural past. It is the only city in the southeast of Alaska that confronts the ocean and competes with Juneau for the pure beauty of its surroundings.
Day 6: Haines; 12:00-20:00 hours. Unlike most cities in Southeast Alaska, Haines can be reached by road. As you sail to Haines, you will see the Lynn Canal, the longest and deepest fjord in North America. Once in the city, the mountains surround you on all sides.
Day 7: Juneau; 07:00-17:00 hours. Juneau is the capital of Alaska. The past and the present here merge into one another. But the main attraction is outside the city: the Mendenhall Glacier, an ice path of almost 20 kilometres in length that is easily accessible and extremely photogenic.
Day 8: Wrangell; 09:00-18:00 hours. The entire history of the city is beautifully presented in the small but impressive Wrangell Museum. Unforgettable are the encounters with black and brown bears in the nearby Anan Bear and Wildlife Observatory.
Day 9: Walker Cove and Rudyerd Bay (Misty Fjords). From 06:00-10:00 hours and from 12.30-17:00 hours. The landscape at Walker Cove is breath-taking with towering cli s on both sides and hundreds of waterfalls falling down into the fjord. The Misty Fjords known as ‘The Mistys’, is a large area of spectacular wilderness located on the Inside Passage of Southeast Alaska. Countless silvery waterfalls rush down from high altitudes. There is a rich population of wild animals, including grizzly and black bears, mountain goats and deer. Sailing through the Behm Canal we reach the picturesque Rudyerd Bay.
Day 10: Prince Rupert; 06:00-17:00 hours. A place on the edge of the wilderness, where people are by far in the minority compared to animals. Disembarkation.
