Breathtaking ice fjords and exceptional flora and fauna – the wild beauty of the Arctic will make the hearts of explorers beat faster
Day 1: Kangerlussuaq, Greenland Flight from Düsseldorf to Kangerlussuaq. Embarkation on board the HANSEATIC nature.
Day 2: Cruise day at sea.
Day 3: Uummannaq, west coast of Greenland. Explore the far north and head to the breathtaking arctic plains with the HANSEATIC nature. In Greenland, Uummannaq will greet you with its colourful houses.
Day 4: Cruise day at sea.
Day 5-8: North Canadian Arctic; Baffin Island, Devon Island, Ellesmere Island, Jones Sound. Experience the culture and history of the Inuits in Pond Inlet on Baffin Island. You will be warmly welcomed by the residents of this traditional settlement, in the snowy surroundings of Eclipse Sound. Zodiacs are the only way to explore this region, including Devon Island, the world’s largest uninhabited island. Glossy blue ice is reflected in the crystal clear water and with a little luck you can see some mighty musk oxen. The ship continues northwards, to the island of Ellesmere. In the clear polar air, cruising through Jones Sound offers unique Arctic panoramas.
Day 9: Cruise day at sea.
Day 10: Pim Island; Nares Strait. A silence hangs in the air and is only interrupted by a crack of glacial ice. Your expedition ship reaches the island of Pim, which is very popular with polar bears and polar foxes. From here the ice determines the course.
Day 11-14: Cape Constitution, Siorapaluk, Qaanaq, Cape York, north-west coast of Greenland. Siorapaluk, the northernmost settlement of Greenland, is a remote place on the edge of Smith Sound. The 80 or so inhabitants earn their living hunting and fishing. In Cape York, you will board the zodiacs to further explore the ice-cold landscape.
Day 15: Cruise day at sea.
Day 16-17: Ilulissat, Disko Bay, Sisimiut, west coast of Greenland. You go through Vaigat Street, sail to Ilulissat and reach another highlight of your expedition; even the experienced traveller will be amazed when seeing the imposing ice fjord. Experience gigantic ice formations in the famous Disko Bay: huge blocks of ice that have broken down the glacier into the sea, one of the most impressive scenes on Greenland. You will discover a magical world of blue and white from your zodiac. Your expedition in the Canadian Arctic ends again in Kangerlussuaq.
Day 18: Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. End of your cruise and return flight to Düsseldorf.
