Day 12-13: Manaus, Brazil. There is much to see in and around the metropolis of Manaus. A black past is the hunting and exploitation of Indian slaves in the 17th and 18th centuries. At the end of the 19th century, the rubber plantations provided enormous wealth. From this period date palaces, the opera house and the market halls based on Paris. Manaus lies at the origin of the Amazon River, which is the result of two rivers owing together. This can also be seen, because the rivers have di erent ow velocity and temperature. Excursion possibilities from Manaus include spotting caiman and jungle trekking. You can also play golf at the famous and beautifully situated Amazonia Golf Resort.
Day 14-18: Further downstream on the Amazon. You will go ashore with zodiacs in Canacari, Parintins, Alter do Chao, Guajara, Rio Pucurui. Canacari will undoubtedly give you a special rainforest experience: during a zodiac landing you will see huge oating carpets of grass together with water lilies – the largest in the world with leaves up to a diameter of 3 meters. In Parintins you can experience a folkloristic performance, with music and dance from the 19th century. A pearly white sand island is the setting for a relaxing morning in Alter do Chao. Enjoy the peace and quiet, as does the sloth, a famous primeval forester who might pop up. The Amazon region is home to more than 400 species of mammals, including a particularly lively example: with a little luck, pink river dolphins will appear at the zodiacs in Guajara. The legendary varied bird life will be present on your cruise. The toucan is one of the loudest singers. Look out for Rio Pucurui, where you will also encounter yellowheaded caracaras and sa ron nches. It is very likely that you will encounter more of the thousands of bird species.
Day 19: Day trip through the Breves canals. The underwater fauna is even more abundant, with three times as many sh species: when the day trip on the canals of Breves ends, the experts on board will once again satisfy your hunger for knowledge.
