Accommodations

Day 1-2: Buenos Aires, Argentina Private transfer to your hotel where you will stay 2 nights. Buenos Aires is also called the Paris of South America because of its wide boulevards and stately houses. Explore this metropolis on your own.

Day 3: Breakfast in your hotel. In the course of the day you will be picked up and taken to the airport for your domestic ight to Ushuaia, the most southern city in the world located at the Beagle Canal. After arrival, you will be transferred to the port, where you will embark on HANSEATIC Inspiration.

Day 4: Cruise day at sea Along the way you will see several species of albatrosses and petrels.

Day 5: The Falkland Islands (Malvinas) A bird paradise with more than 60 di erent species of birds including royal penguins, Magellanic penguins, donkey penguins and rock penguins. During walks along the coast the expedition sta will give you fascinating information about ora and fauna. You will visit the small capital city of Stanley with its houses and gardens in Victorian style.

Day 6-7: Cruise days at sea. Day 8-9: South Georgia Mountains covered with glaciers on the horizon and deep fjords herald the approach to the island of South Georgia. With the zodiacs you’ll go ashore, where you can enjoy the special animal world. South Georgia is home to a gigantic colony of king penguins. In the mating season the beaches are full of large colonies of elephant seals. The expedition sta on board, consisting of biologists and geologists, will give you further explanation and draw your attention to the surprising details of these animals.

Day 10: Cruise day at sea

Day 11-16: Antarctica On your way to the South Orkney Islands, the Antarctic Sound and Weddell Sea, the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula you will see many species of seabirds including albatrosses and petrels. You pass Paulet Island where in 1903 the Swedish polar traveller Nordenskjöld was forced to bivouac for 10 months. Now this volcanic island is home to penguins. Arriving at the southern Shetland islands we will disembark at Half Moon Island, where there is a large colony of chinstrap penguins and you have a view of the neighbouring Livingstone Island with its elephants and Weddell seals. You are now approaching the mainland of Antarctica with its snow and ice-covered peaks and impressive glaciers. At Neko Harbour there is an opportunity to go ashore with the zodiacs. Here is a large colony of Gentoos, donkey penguins, as well as on Cuverville Island, another possible landing spot. Your ship sails through the narrow Lemaire Canal with mountains on both sides that are at least 1000 meters high. From the Neumayer Canal and Port Lockroy research station, you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers.

Day 17-18: Drake Passage. For two days you will travel through the Drake Passage to the southern tip of South America.

Day 19: Ushuaia, Argentina. Disembarkation and transfer to the airport.
